The Wooden Lightbox (Alex MacKenzie) + The Arecibo Effect (Sarah Evans & The McKenzie Break)

A special live performance double-bill for the Saturday night of the Festival Week fusing live music with hand-crafted moving image in the unique environment of Norwich cafe-bar Take 5's mediæval vaulted Undercroft Bar.

Sarah Evans and The McKenzie Break’s The Arecibo Effect is a new animation work with a live score. Evans’ organic, deliberately low-tech animation technique evokes a strong sense of nature and place, creating fictitious and futuristic imaginary worlds.

The Wooden Lightbox: A Secret Art of Seeing is Vancouver-based artist Alex MacKenzie’s latest exploration and reconfiguration of cinematic apparatus and emulsion. MacKenzie’s home-made, hand-cranked projector, coupled with a striking array of handmade and processed emulsion sees hypnosis, panorama, motion studies, expectation, magic, the dreamworld and sleight-of-eye conspire in an intimate and immersive framework.

Take 5 is our favourite bar. It serves dinner til late, and both upstairs and Undercroft bars will be open on the night serving organic wines, local beer and more.
